My brother-in-law Joel and I are on our way to Baja California. We are traveling with a 2002 Toyota Taco-ma with four wheel drive.
"Tacoma adopted its name after the nearby Mount Rainier, originally called Mount Tacoma or Mount Tahoma. It is known as the "City of Destiny" "
So it seems appropriate to name this blog Taco 2 Baja; taking liberty with our fluent knowledge of the Spanish language (JK). We were at a Mexico Cafe in Phoenix on Sunday morning and we both had problems ordering our meal ! We both are of the opinion that we might have selected the wrong partner for this expedition.
We are currently in Tucson in a motel. Our plans were to test out our gear for our expedition in the desert of Arizon. Our testing grounds turned out to be cold and wet for the last few days. Today we will head for Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument and plan to enter Mexico on Thursay. We have reservation for Sat and Sun at:

Cool Dad
ReplyDeleteAdios Taco guys. Have a good trip.
ReplyDeleteTaco Tipos,
ReplyDeleteShoulda sent you guys with Spanish on tape, you have hours in the car for listening. FedEx to motel? Language is what separates us from primates. Your thumbs will only take you so far.
On that trip to Vera Cruz (I met you,Dad, Ellen and Bob in Mex City afterwards 1975) Norman and I found the hotel had a restaurant on the beach. We ordered Plato del Mar to go with our vista, and since I had these delicioius little rolls the night before I tried ordering those, too, bolillos. I asked for four, cuatro. We ended up with a quarter chicken. Cuato pollo.
Hasta!

I got it...Taco (2, to, too as me too said the camper--the vehicle not the person) Baja. I think you 2 campers need a SAG driver who speaks the native tongue.
ReplyDeletedéme una pedido de fritadas. (loosely translates as give me an order of fries, amigo.)
Hedley
Taco 2 Baja is very clever indeed. Much better than Dos Amigos, No Bicicletas.
ReplyDeleteGood luck on the trip. Somebody tell Laura, that despite language abilities, we ARE primates...Lloyd.
ReplyDeleteRegardless of incumbent weather, you two are having fun per your postings. Please keep them coming, we enjoy reading all about your adventure. It seems that from your back porch you can see Mexico. You now can claim expertise in the international diplomatic arena. Look forward to your comments on GC (Guadalupe Canyon, not Grand Canyon).

ps: don't believe hotwire.com would work in the boondocks.
Joel, I like the green shirt you had on in Puerto Penasco. It looks vaguely familiar...tres amigos bike trip, Rim-to-Rim hiking, North Cascade climb & descend.
ReplyDeleteFor the price of one bottle XXX, you should be able to buy a cheap shirt in Baaha!
H.
Joel actually have several of these famous shirts. He gets one out everyday!
ReplyDeleteJeezee, Colla Bay is wall-to-wall with gringos' RVs. Regarding those awesome sunsets, have you seen any green flash? Your "new" route to San Luis, is that cross country or back on the main (only?)highway and along the US-Mexican border?
